Complaint of Manoj Yadav to SHO kotla Mubarakpur dated 3rd january 2008. Manoj's stall was looted and money robbed by the Basoya gang on 3rd January 2008. Translated from Hindi by Manushi.
Needless to say, no action was taken on this complaint.
"My name is Manoj. I sell garlic, onions and other vegetables at stall no. B-16, Sewa Nagar. At 10 o clock at night on 31st December 2007, after Bhagat Singh, Kamru, Sanju, Mansingh and two other persons unknown to me forced my neighbouring stall owner Ramsingh to flee from his stall by threatening to kill him, they then attacked my stall. These people have threatened to kill me on earlier occasions as well because I lived with Mehboob for a number of years. They told me that since I cooperate with Mehboob, my life would not be spared while Mehboob as their prime target would not be allowed to live for very long.
They then resorted to looting my stall. They attacked me with the intention of killing me, and fearing for my life, I fled the scene. They then robbed one full sack of garlic, two kattas of onions, 30 kilos of ginger and about 30 kilos of tomatoes. In addition they robbed Rs 250 that were lying in my cash box. They then threw around and scattered the rest of the stuff of my stall on the road, including buckets and tins I use for storage. They even broke the framed photograph of Matarani hanging in my shop. All this looting has cost me a loss of around 4000 to 5000 Rupees.
Sir, this was a pre-planned attack because just about two hours before the attack took place, Mahipal Basoya called me to the park, and asked me why do you cook for Mehboob? Why do you live with him? He then openly threatened me: “Tonight we will teach you a lesson for staying with Mehboob and cooking for Mehboob. Neither you nor your stall will be spared tonight.”
Even before this incident, Mahipal Basoya, Bhagat Singh, Kamru and Roshan robbed me of the model mobile stall given to me by Manushi Sangathan. This incident took place on June 7th, 2007. Mahipal and Bhagat Singh had beaten me up that day and said: Today we are taking away your special rehdi. Wait and watch, you will soon be evicted from this stall space as well. What right does someone lowly like you have to occupy a proper stall? You dared go to the MCD meeting ( of June 6) despite our warnings. We had clearly ordered everyone to keep away from that meeting. How did you dare disobey our dictate?”
Sir, that the cost of that model mobile stall was around Rs 16,000.
On 2nd January 2008, when the SHO came to interact with us in the Sewa Nagar market, I tried to tell him regarding the way these people had looted my shop and threatened to kill me. However, Bhagat Singh, Kamru, Roshan and Kuldeep forcefully dragged me away to the Sewa Nagar Park and threatened to kill me if I spoke a word about this matter to the SHO.
We are putting our lives at stake to file written complaints against these people because we know that if strict action is not taken against them they will drive each one of us out of our allotted stalls and take over the entire project. Every now and then they beat us up to forcibly extract money from us. They are illegally extorting Rs 300 per month from each stall owner for providing stolen electricity. Those shopkeepers who need water, have to pay to Mahipal and Bhagat singh Rs 200 per month per person for taking the government water from the tap in the Sewa Nagar Park. They also force us to pay for their booze. After getting drunk every day they indulge in danga fasad. Some days ago on 20th November Bhagat Singh and Kuldeep came and demanded Rs 400 from me. When I resisted they gave me life threats and snatched Rs 200 from me. They are extorting and snatching money in this manner from all the vendors by sheer terror and goonda acts. Bhagat Singh has also forced every stall owner to pay Rs 200 per head for simply getting application forms for electric connections. In addition Bhagat Singh has taken Rs 4500 per person in the guise of getting an electricity meter installed.
We request you to free us from the terror, exploitation and goondagardi of the above named persons by taking strict action against them."
S/O Madan Lal Yadav,
Stall No. B/16 Sewa Nagar Market,
P.S. I am submitting this complaint at the DCP’s office in Hauz Khas because the above named goonda elements is forever shadowing us and will not let us reach Kotla thana.
