Professor Ramdas Lamb (Ph.D., University of California at Santa Barbara, 1991) teaches introductory religion courses as well as courses dealing with contemporary religion and society, fieldwork, and mysticism. The focus of his current research is on monastic traditions and diverse faith traditions in central and northern India. He was a Hindu sadhu (monk) in North India from 1969 until 1978.

Prof. Ramdas Lamb took his first diksha as a Sadhu in the Ramananda Sampradaya in 1969, the largest monastic order in the world today. But in 1978, he went back to the US to pursue his academic career. He has been teaching at the University of Hawaii since 1989.

He remains an active member of the order, even though he now lives and teaches in the U.S. He is currently doing research for a book on the Ramananda Sampradaya.
